Every year, Brice, my brothers, and their friends go on a weekend golf trip. This year, my mom and sisters-in-law finally took advantage of it and took a weekend away on our own! Brice and I had been to Madison this spring and fell in love with the city, while Leah and my mom had never been. It seemed like the perfect fit for a girls weekend away. & it sure was. Jess had prior commitments and couldn't make it, and we missed her!
We left in the morning on Friday and drove up to Madison, taking the scenic route since we got a bit lost trying to avoid tolls.. whoops. We decided to start our trip at the beach, and headed to a local beach area by Lake Monona and relaxed with our books for the afternoon. We hit up the Old Fashioned in the evening for burgers and cheese curds that were to die for.
On Saturday, Leah, Mom, and I headed to the local weekly Farmer's Market downtown and went to Colectivo for our morning coffee. A hotel employee told us that it takes 3-5
years to get a booth spot at the Farmer's Market because it's so big! The fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers made me really wish I had one in Washington. :) There happened to be a huge art market going on in the square too, so we wandered around for awhile checking out all of the art and talking with the artists. It was amazing to see such diverse art from all over the world in one spot, with their creators there too (even if we couldn't afford any of it).
In the afternoon we walked down State Street and explored new and old book stores, boutiques, and shops and had a yummy lunch. My apologies to my Mom + Leah for waiting on me in the book stores. :)
For dinner we went out to a local Italian restaurant and ate outside with a gorgeous view of Lake Monona.
We ended the weekend with Sunday brunch and shopping, and headed home. It was such a fun getaway together, and we missed Jess so much! The weekend was much needed and very relaxing. Now back to real life. :)
